Personalised Japanese Chopsticks, Engraved Wood | Takumiya

You fill in 5 fields when ordering, one per pair. A preview of the Japanese transcription appears under each field. After your order a specialist checks the texts and you receive an email with the final version, which you can approve or change before engraving.

Yes. The 5 fields are independent: you can engrave 5 different names, one for each member of the family, or enter the same text everywhere for 5 identical pairs.

Western first names are written in katakana, the Japanese alphabet used for foreign words. It transcribes the sounds: Alexander becomes アレクサンダー and Isabella イザベラ. The transcription is checked by a specialist before engraving.

Yes. You can choose a word or a short phrase engraved in kanji, such as 家族 (“family”), 絆 (“bond”) or 夢を追う (“chase your dreams”). Just tell us what you want it to say and the transcription is checked before engraving.

You approve the transcription by email before engraving starts, which prevents most mistakes. If the engraved text does not match what you approved, write to our support team and we will remake the set.

No, they come as a set of 5 pairs, that is 10 sticks. This is the traditional format of a Japanese chopstick set, where each person has their own.

Hashi chopsticks are cut from a dense hardwood with a deep reddish-brown tone and a fine, close grain. Low in porosity, it takes on a darker patina over time. The finish is matte and keeps the feel of the wood intact.

Japanese chopsticks measure 20 to 23 cm and end in a fine tip, suited to delicate pieces and fish. Chinese chopsticks are longer, 25 to 27 cm, with a thicker tip designed to reach into shared dishes in the middle of the table.

Each stick measures 22.5 cm, a classic length for adult Japanese chopsticks. They are square near the hand and taper towards the tip, for a good grip and more precision.

These are table chopsticks. Japanese cooking chopsticks, called saibashi, are much longer, often 30 to 35 cm, so you can work over a pan or a fryer. Hashi chopsticks are made for eating, not for cooking.

No. They follow the shape and proportions of traditional Japanese chopsticks, and the Japanese engraving is checked by a specialist, but they are not made in Japan. We would rather say so plainly.

Because every pair is engraved for you, allow 7 to 10 days for production, then 7 to 10 days of tracked delivery. The transcription approval email is sent right after your order.

Hand wash them in warm soapy water and dry them straight away. Avoid the dishwasher, the microwave and long soaking, which damage the wood and the engraving. A little neutral food-safe oil now and then nourishes the wood.

Yes. With a name engraved for each person, they make a useful and personal gift for a housewarming, a wedding, a birthday or Christmas, and they are used at the table all year round.
